Science Year 2026 – Medicine of the Future: new project
How artificial intelligence is changing health care
The goal of the project is to create a digital platform that uses concrete examples to show how AI could change medicine over the next ten years. Using five examples from different stages of patients’ lives, it will present a range of AI applications in medicine – possible examples include genetic analysis in childhood, imaging-based diagnostics, robotic surgery, wearables, and assistance systems in old age. It will highlight both the benefits and an alternative based on today’s non-AI therapies. In this “patient journey,” users will be able to choose between options and experience different scenarios.
The project is aimed at a broad public interested in health, especially adults aged 40 and older. The content will explicitly not be defined by the participating research institutions, but developed together with interested members of the public. In two workshops in April, dialogue groups will identify and prioritize relevant topics. Spots are still available for the workshop in Munich on April 23. Registration: https://ey1t7ijo.sibpages.com
Five public events
The digital patient journey will be shared through the channels of project partner Wort & Bild Verlag, including apotheken-umschau.de, as well as through the channels of M1 – Munich Medicine Alliance and its member organizations. It will be accompanied by five public events in the greater Munich area featuring experts from the M1 partner institutions.
The M1 partners – TUM, LMU Munich and their university hospitals, and Helmholtz Munich – will contribute their scientific expertise and cutting-edge medical research, while Wort & Bild Verlag will provide communication tailored to the target audience. The project will not only communicate current research, but also help strengthen trust in AI applications in health care.
- The M1 – Munich Medicine Alliance was established to promote cutting-edge medical research and the translation of scientific findings into patient care. Its members are the Technical University of Munich (TUM), LMU Munich and their university hospitals, and Helmholtz Munich.
