The exhibition “HAAR – MACHT – LUST” at Kunsthalle München invites visitors on a timulating, sensory, and surprising journey through three millennia of the art and cultural history of hair. TUM Center for Culture and Arts is collaborating with Kunsthalle to present a series of accompanying lectures.

Hair is much more than just a surface feature – it is a sensitive indicator of health. In a highly active mini-organ, each individual hair grows in alternating phases of growth and rest. It is connected to the brain via nerve fibers, and stress directly influences its growth. At the same time, it stores stress hormones, thus preserving traces of past stress. The lecture shows how closely hair, the nervous system, and health are connected.

Prof. Eva Peters heads the Psychoneuroimmunology Laboratory at the Clinic for Psychosomatics at Justus Liebig University in Giessen and also works at the Charité University Hospital in Berlin. She is a dual specialist in dermatology and psychosomatics, a certified psycho-oncologist, and a neurodermatitis and urticaria trainer. She also works as a depth psychologist and systemic psychotherapist.
